Creolization in Caribbean Music - English

Creolization in St Lucia

One of the undiscovered treasures of the Caribbean is St. Lucia. It's a location to visit even though it's not as well known on a global scale as some of its neighbors in the Caribbean, such Jamaica, The Bahamas, and Haiti. It's a fun tidbit about the place that I, for one, had no idea about before reading Tour De Force: A Musical Journey of the Caribbean that it has its own Creole language. Using terms from French, English, and Spanish, Créole à Sainte-Lucie is the nation's own take on "Broken-French." Surprisingly, it has a lot in common with Haitian Creole, one of the Caribbean's more widely used creoles. In addition, the colonial dance known as Quadrille has a striking resemblance to the American courtship dance known as Square Dancing.  Additionally, it shares certain similarities with ring-play, a casual dance of African heritage that has a long history in the Caribbean.

St Lucian Creole

The video above goes over a brief history of St Lucia, along with its location and some command terms used in St Lucia. As the video went on the host noticed that the terms used had a very destined similar to Haitian  Creole.

Creolization in Barbados-Musical Icons

Another undiscovered Caribbean gem is Barbados. At least, this was the case before musicians began to gain notoriety on a global scale. A well-known musician and fashion designer, Robin Fenty is also known by her stage name Rihanna. We can all probably still clearly recall the lyrics to songs like "Umbrella" , "Rude Boy," and "Better Have My Money.". Its important to note that Barbados does have other local legends who have created works of art that reflect the distinctive cultural sound of their nation. National composer Roger Gittens, who opposes international acclaim, combines European-style work with syncopated calypso rhythms.  And the latest star to hit the global seen is Father Phillis. Father Philis is a musician from the Barbados island who has experience with going viral. His song "Brawling" completely went viral on TikTok last year. He performed a few lines of rap in the 30-second video that went viral.

SWEET GIRRLLL!!!

The video above give a great example of Bajan Creole.  You may not understand most of what is said here, but the creole is easy to recognize, especially in the final 20 secs of this clip.

Creolization in Cosine: The Origin of Curry

                            Jamaican Curry

No matter who you are, where you are from, or what you eat, there is a good chance that you enjoy curry. At least, I am certain that I do. However, there is still much disagreement about Curry's origins today. However, that is a discussion that primarily belongs to Caribbean residents who have not researched the dish's origins. Anyone would initially believe that curry is a Jamaican cuisine due to its distinctive flavor, which is made up of mild and hot spices that dance merrily together with your palate. It's a long-standing misconception. Even though Jamaican curry mimics the spice of traditional Jamaican food, curry actually comes from India. But if you ask me, Jamaican curry is and will always be the best😁.
